GGSKC’s School Curriculum

At GGSK College, we follow the National Curriculum, but we lay emphasis on the full personality development of the individual learner through a vast range of subjects and extra-curricular activities. By doing this in small classes, we try to prepare our learners to fully integrate the world of work as real and healthy professionals.

FLEXIBLE APPROACH

Our current Year 8 and Year 9 classes are already studying G.C.S.E. standard work in their Mathematics, English and Science lessons.

Everyone capable will start their GCSE coursework in Year 8 so that they complete numerous subjects one year early in Year 10 which enables many students to finish Year 11 with up to 15 GCSEs or equivalent.

Primary children will also learn a Modern European Language, from Spanish, French, or German, alongside the Language usually spoken at home
( eg.Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati and Tamil.) These can be learned all the way through to A Level standard as part of the curriculum.

At G.G.S.K. College, our children are monitored and assessed every three weeks to evaluate progress. Close contact is maintained with parents to ensure the child is aiming towards the high standards we set for them.

G.G.S.K. College strictly adheres to the National Curriculum, from Nursery and Key Stage One right through to G.C.S.E. level and Sixth Form.

As well as the core subjects of Mathematics, English (Literature & Language), Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), the College also offers Modern Western Languages (French, Spanish, German), Eastern Languages (Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Tamil), I.C.T., History, Geography, C.D.T., Textiles and Electronics, Business Studies, Religious Education, Art and Design, Drama, Music, P.E. and Photography.

We also realise that your child’s education should not merely consist of academic studies alone, but we also concentrate on his/her personal development into the kind of men and women we can all be proud of and lead the way into a more challenging future.

SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCILS

Student Councils are held on a weekly basis. This is a platform where representatives of the students voice out their opinions and concerns on different school policies, such as the Anti-Bullying Policy and School Dinners. Such a practice makes them feel part and parcel in the decision-making of the school.

Prefect Councils comprising of students with exemplary behaviour are held on a daily basis to foster a Code of Conduct which is unique in itself. It is also an opportunity where the student community show their latent talents of leadership.

STATEMENT ON SEX EDUCATION

We approach sex education via:
1) Knowledge and understanding
2) Skills
3) Attitudes

It begins at the reception level with a study of the development and growth of babies, parts of the body and family life.  Gender issues and stereotypes are challenged as children get older.

During the middle years, children are taught more about physical changes and how to identify emotions.  In the final years of the primary school boys and girls will learn more about physical changes of puberty, menstruation and personal hygiene.

In Year 6 and beyond in the Secondary, children will look closely at relationships, peer pressure, emotions, conception and reproduction.  They will study parenting skills, disease and illness, the problems and dangers of drug misuse, smoking and solvent abuse.

Throughout their schooling, they will be taught how to develop self esteem, to nurture their rights and responsibilities, how to look after their body, what feeling safe means and their social responsibilities to home and school.

This area of the curriculum is always taught with sensitivity and care and parents are   involved at every stage. There may be rare occasions when parents wish to withdraw their child from these lessons and these should be discussed with the headteacher.
