School Rules
General Standards of Behaviour
- Pupils should be polite and courteous to all members of the school and community whether they are other pupils, teachers, non-teaching staff or outside visitors
- Pupils should keep the school neat and tidy and free from graffiti.
- Pupils should walk quietly around the school, keeping left on staircases and in corridors.
- Pupils should ensure that they arrive to each lesson on time with all the necessary equipment – books, pens, stationery, kits etc and all homework done.
- Pupils should remember that whenever they are away from the school premises (eg P.E activity, educational visits/ trips, work experience) they are representing GGSK College and that the reputation of the College depends on their behaviour.
Specific Student School Rules
Punctuality, Attendance and Regularity
- All students should arrive to their coaches/ transport on time so that they attend school on time – 8.30am for Morning Assemblies.
- All students are required by law to be regular to school. Any absences should be notified to the Office or form tutor with an absence letter from the parent/ guardian.
- No student may leave the school premises during the school day without written permission – any student leaving for a medical appointment must have the official appointment card or doctor’s medical note. In all such cases, the pupil must sign out at the Office and/ or sign in on their return. However, parents are advised to fix such appointments outside school hours to avoid disturbing the smooth education of their child.
Uniform
- All students should be smartly dressed in school uniform at all times. All students should know the uniform policy at GGSK College from the very first day they resume studies at the school. These are available at the Office and are frequently mentioned at school assemblies – no one has any excuse that they are unaware of the school uniform policy – if in doubt, ask a teacher or at the Office.
- During P.E. lessons, all pupils should be dressed in their appropriate P.E. kit. Under no circumstances should pupils refrain from doing P.E. A special note signed by the parent/ guardian should be handed to the Office in case os any constraint.
- Jewellery should not be worn in the school except:
- one piece of religious significance
- a wristwatch
- sleepers/ studs in pierced ears for girls only.
Valuables and other gadgets
No student is allowed to bring valuables to the school ( mobile phones, MP3 music players, PSPs, jewellery). The school will not be held responsible for any loss of such property. Moreover, they will be confiscated by the Office and given to charity,
Damage to GGSKC property.
Any student held responsible for the damage to school property including school coaches will have to reimburse the total cost of the damage. An additional fine will also be imposed for such deliberate acts of vandalism.
General Behaviour
No student is allowed to bring chewing gum to school either on the premises or on coaches. Anyone caught chewing gum or has on their possession chewing gum will be automatically fined �10.00.
Anyone found tampering with the school fire extinguishers unless for emergencies will be fined �100.00
Damage to any school coach/ minibuses outside or inside will incur a �500.00 fine
It is illegal to smoke on, or near, the school grounds – this carries up to a �1000.00 fine by a court of law.
Students are not allowed to bring any ‘hazardous’ substances to school – this includes correction fluid (Tippex), glue, butane, matches, lighters etc
Graffiti is totally unacceptable and carries a fine for blatant vandalism of school property.
Food must only be eaten in the school dining area – not outside, in corridors or classrooms.
Punishments
Punishments for breaking school rules vary depending on the seriousness of the offence.
Offenders can face anything from :
extra homework, lunch time detentions, after school detentions, Saturday detentions, spot penalty fines egs: �10.00 on-the-spot fine for chewing gum; tampering with the school fire extinguishers: �100.00,
vandalising school coaches �500.00 )
and suspensions/ expulsions for the more serious offences.
All offences will be put on the student’s Permanent Record which will be shown to future Colleges’/ universities’ applications.
